Dive into Sterling on the Lake

Downtown Flowery Branch

28 April . 2016

Perfect Day Trip Agenda: One Tank Trips

At Sterling on the Lake, there are plenty of community activities and amenities to stay entertained. But when you want to venture beyond the neighborhood, you’ll find even more to explore. A day trip is a great way to soak in all that the area has to offer. Here are four ways to travel locally and still be home in time for dinner:

For the Sports Fanatic

Little known fact: Flowery Branch is home to the Atlanta Falcons’ training facility. The team’s 50‐acre facility features indoor and outdoor practice fields and training room. You can also find the entire team preparing for the upcoming season during the annual training camp. Get a leg up on your fantasy league with a trip to watch practice and scope out the team’s top players and rising stars.

For those who pledge allegiance to the college football, spend a fall Saturday in nearby Athens to see the Georgia Bulldogs play between the hedges of Sanford Stadium. Revel in the tailgating and traditions at the oldest public university in the country. And  if all goes well, you’ll get to hear that bell ring.

If baseball is more your speed, head over to Coolray Field in Lawrenceville to catch a Gwinnett Braves game. The Atlanta Braves have long been known for the strength of their farm system, so an afternoon with this Triple‐A affiliate is likely to garner you a view of the next Brian McCann or Freddie Freeman.

Sample Local Fare

Take a trip through local food culture with a food tour. Let yourself be guided through Atlanta’s budding foodie scene by Food Tours Atlanta, exploring the Inman Park neighborhood along the famed Beltline.  If you’re feeling more country than city, wind your way into the Blue Ridge Mountains to where Blue Ridge Mountain Food Tours has a walking tour to fit your tastes. Whether your weakness is fabulous food, delicious craft beer, or delectable sweets, spend a day indulging in your flavor of choice.

To curate your own tour, look no farther than Lake Lanier. With a  wealth of seasonal and year--‐round  dining options to choose from, you can easily spend your day  hopping from one delicious meal to another all while enjoying the relaxing lake views that make Sterling such an incredible place to call home.

For a  day of ultimate indulgence, head to nearby Château Élan Winery and Resort where  you can easily spend the day, or even a weekend, enjoying meals at one of their seven restaurants. Choose from Southern, Mediterranean, French, Irish and Spa cuisine. And don’t forget a tasting and tour of the winery.

Explore the Great Outdoors

While Lake Lanier is an oasis of natural beauty in itself, there are even more options for the avid outdoorsman to explore. Less than two hours away is the Chattahoochee National Forest. Comprising over 750,000 acres, this beautiful park offers hiking, biking, fishing, camping, and more. Tackle Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, and you just might be inspired to trek all 2,200 miles. For something a little less strenuous, gather a few neighbors or family members and Shoot the Hooch! Choose one of four starting locations and hop on a raft, kayak, canoe, or tube for a fun day floating down the river. If you prefer your nature excursion relaxed and perfectly manicured, head over to the Gainesville Botanical Garden. Offering art installations, concerts, and classes, the five--‐acre extension of the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a peaceful place to learn and relax.

For Kids and Kids at Heart

When it comes to entertaining the kids, you don’t want to drive far to find fun. Luckily, when you live at Sterling on the Lake, family‐friendly fun is right around the corner. Make a splash at Lanier World where you’ll find Wild Waves, the largest wave pool in Georgia, Raging River, Bucky’s Fun Zone, slides, games and more to enjoy.

As you can see, there is something for all interests and what makes it even sweeter, these trips are accessible with just one tank of gas.
